Wildlife Protection Society of India

The Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) was set up in 1994 by award-winning wildlife photographer and filmmaker, Belinda Wright.

Since then, they have worked hand-in-hand with the Indian authorities to combat poaching and the illegal trade in wildlife. More recently, it has tackled the issue of human-animal conflict, and supported various invaluable research projects.

Elephant Family first partnered with WPSI in 2005 to fund a study of the lost and existing paths of Asian elephants in eastern India. Following the study’s findings, we have been working together on the 'Corridor to Survival' project, conserving vital elephant habitat and cutting instances of human-animal conflict in Orissa, India. With the launch of the study’s second phase in 2010, our partnership continues – as does our fight for this vital elephant corridor.
