Adopt An Elephant

ADOPT AN ELEPHANT: choose from a baby or mother elephant, coloured or blank to paint your own.

100 years ago, the population of the Asian elephant was around 250,000. Today there are as little as 30,000. Up to 95% of their land has disappeared in the last 100 years. This is the main threat facing these animals and with less habitat they are coming into increasing conflict with humans, often resulting in death on both sides. The Asian elephant is the majestic guardian of the forest and plays a vital role in shaping and sustaining the richness of their habitat.

ADOPT A TIGER

100 years ago, the population of the tiger was around 100,000. Adopt A Tiger
Today the population has dramatically dropped to 3,000. The tiger is rapidly losing its habitat but also suffers from relentless poaching for traditional medicine and skins. The tiger is a top predator and needs large areas to roam for prey. Deliberate killing and shrinking habitat has left the vast majority of tigers in small, isolated populations that may not be able to sustain themselves.

  • Blank Paint-Your-Own - £22 (postage included)

ADOPT A CROCODILE

100 years ago, the gharial crocodile was around 10,000 and the mugger crocodile 20,000. Adopt A Crocodile
Today, fewer than 200 breeding gharials and between 5,000 - 10,000 muggers live. The main threats to these crocodiles are the illegal skin trade and habitat destruction, but unfortunately also trappings in fishing nets, egg predation and killings for use in traditional medicine. The fish-eating gharial is the rarest crocodile in the world and is in danger of soon disappearing forever.

ADOPT AN ORANGUTAN

At the beginning of the twentieth century there were more than 300,000 orangutans in the wild.
Today, there are as little as 62,000 Sumatran and Bornean orangutans. Threatened by rapid forest destruction, largely for timber, paper, mining and palm oil cultivation, orangutans have seen 80% of their habitat lost in the last 20 years. At this rate, they could be extinct by 2031.

ADOPT A HORNBILL

The Rhinoserous Hornbill found in South-East Asia are in numbers as low as 3,000 in the wild.
Their population is rapidly on the decline due to forest degradation. They are sadly also hunted for their bill and tail feathers. Black and white in colour, these beautiful birds are known for their upturned casques which are bright orange and red.
