Dr Khyne U Mar BVS, MPhil, MSc, PhD, FRCVS - senior veterinary consultant Dr Mar is a pre-eminent specialist in the Asian elephant. She has unparalleled experience in the field. For five years (1994-1999) she was responsible for the welfare of over two thousand working elephants, their mahouts and the mahouts' families in Myanmar (formerly Burma). Dr Mar also supervised corollary research, organized consultations and developed seminars and training courses for junior veterinarians.
Dr Madhulal Valliyate, Jaipur project manager and veterinarian (India) Our veterinary surgeon in Jaipur for the past 5 years. Madhu manages our Jaipur project on a daily basis, educating elephant owners and mahouts about health and welfare standards. He also acts as an intermediary between them and the government. Madhu's passion for wildlife led him to train as a vet. He dedicated his life to elephants because he saw that despite their high profile in Indian society, they suffered greatly. He wants to be part of the effort to preserve the existence of what he calls "these magnificent and amazingly intelligent creatures". Dr Christopher Stremme (Germany/Sumatra) Dr Stremme has over 10 years' experience working with elephants as a keeper and veterinarian at Hanover, Munster and Osnabruck zoos; a consultant to Fauna and Flora International. Before joining us as a full time veterinarian for the Sumatra Veterinary Care Project, Dr Stremme was a researcher at the University of Veterinary Science in Vienna.
Dr Muhammand Wahyu (Sumatra) Doctor of veterinary medicine from Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh. Dr Wahyu is a member of the Indonesian Veterinarian Society and Indonesian Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarian Association. He was a senior veterinarian at Medan Zoo and veterinary consultant for the Elephant Patrolling Unit at Aras Napal, Langkat before joining the Veterinary Care Project in 2003. Dr Anhar Lubis (Sumatra) Doctor of veterinary medicine from Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh. Dr Anhar is a member of the Indonesian Veterinarian Society and Indonesian Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarian Association. He was a veterinarian and consultant at Medan Zoo and later, zoo manager. He was veterinary consultant for the Elephant Patrolling Unit at Aras Napal, Langkat before joining the Veterinary Care Project in 2003.
